Search "X video downloader" and you get a wall of near-identical pages: paste a link, get an MP4. Most of them genuinely work. So the useful question is not "which one is best" in the abstract — it is which kind of tool matches what you are actually trying to save. The three kinds of tool
1. Web downloaders. A page where you paste a post URL and get a video file. No installation, works in any browser including on a phone, usually no account. On quality claims
Treat "4K downloader" as a description of the ceiling, not a promise about your video. Every tool is limited by the file X actually stores. On our downloader, quality labels are derived from the video's real height: 4K at 2160p and above, then 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p. If a post only has a 720p rendition, 720p is what you will be offered — by us or by anyone else.
Which one should you use?
You want the video, once, right now, possibly on your phone. Any reputable web downloader does this, ours included. Paste the link, pick a quality, done. Nothing to install.
You batch-download from many sites and are comfortable in a terminal. A command-line tool will serve you better than any web page.
You are collecting posts, not just clips. This is the case where a downloader is genuinely the wrong shape of tool — not because it is poor, but because the thing you want is text. If you are building a swipe file, a research database, or a citation archive, you need the wording, the author and the link as text, and a video file has none of that.

Two safety notes worth more than any feature list
No downloader reaches private accounts. A tool advertising access to protected posts is either lying or asking for your X credentials. Do not hand those over.
Downloading is not the same as republishing. Saving a public post for personal use, research or citation is one thing; reposting someone's video as your own is another. Credit the author — and if you are reposting through xPostCopier, attribution is added for you.

What is the best free X video downloader? For a one-off video, any reputable web downloader — ours works in a phone browser with no account. "Best" depends entirely on whether you also need the text.
Can I download a GIF from X? Yes. X GIFs are short videos, and both video and GIF posts are supported.
