On a laptop, copying a post from X is a solved problem — a browser extension puts a button under every post. On a phone it is not, and the reason is simple: the X mobile app has no extensions, and mobile browsers do not run Chrome extensions either. So the desktop answer does not transfer. What follows is what actually works on a phone in 2026, ranked by how much of the post you get to keep.
Copy just the link (built into the X app)
The one thing the app does well:
1. Tap the Share icon under the post — on iPhone a square with an arrow, on Android three connected dots.
2. Tap Copy link. If you do not see it, it sits under Share via… in the system share sheet.
3. The URL is in your clipboard. Long-press any text field and choose Paste.

Copy the text of a post on a phone
The X app does not offer "copy text" on a post. Two workarounds:
Text selection in a mobile browser. Open x.com in Safari or Chrome rather than the app, long-press on the post text, and drag the selection handles. Fiddly, but it gives you the words. Tap "Show more" first if the post is truncated.
Paste the link into the web downloader. Faster and cleaner — the tool loads the post and lets you save the text as a TXT file. Steps below.

Go to the X post downloader in Safari or Chrome. It is a normal web page — it works in a mobile browser with nothing to install and no account.
Paste the link
Long-press the input field, tap Paste, and submit. The post loads on the page so you can check you grabbed the right one.
Save what you came for

The screenshot route
Every phone can screenshot a post, and for sending a friend a picture that is fine. Be clear about the trade-off: a screenshot is an image.
