Copying a link to a post on X (formerly Twitter) sounds trivial — until the Share button hides it behind three different menus, or the copied URL drags tracking parameters along. Here is exactly where the copy-link option lives on desktop and in the X app in 2026, what the link actually contains, and what you can do with it once it's in your clipboard.
Copy a post link on desktop (x.com)
On x.com in any browser:
1. Find the post (tweet) you want to link to.
2. Click the Share icon (the arrow in the bottom-right corner of the post).
3. Choose Copy link. Done — the URL is in your clipboard.
The copied link looks like x.com/username/status/1234567890, sometimes with a ?s= or ?t= tail. That tail is a share-tracking parameter — you can delete it, the link works the same without it.
Copy a link in the X mobile app (Android & iPhone)
In the X app the flow is nearly the same on both systems:
1. Tap the Share icon under the post (Android: three connected dots; iPhone: the square with an arrow).
2. Tap Copy link.
3. The link lands in your phone's clipboard — long-press any text field and choose Paste to use it.
If you don't see "Copy link" right away, it can hide under Share via… — the system share sheet always includes a Copy option.
What can you do with a copied post link?
